Arlington Row

A line of 14th-century weavers' cottages in Bibury, photographed more than almost any other domestic terrace in England.

About

Originally a wool store built around 1380 and converted into weavers' cottages in the 17th century to supply Arlington Mill, the row is a textbook of vernacular Cotswold building: steep pitched roofs of stone tiles, dormer windows, and the soft honey-yellow of the local oolite.

The cottages are still lived in, and visitors are asked to keep voices low and respect that the front gardens are private. The view is best in early morning before the coaches arrive.

In Bibury
