Cogges Manor Farm

A 13th-century manor house and working historic farm on the edge of Witney — a heritage trust attraction with animals, gardens, and a starring role as Yew Tree Farm in Downton Abbey.

About

Cogges sits on the edge of Witney with a medieval moat, a 13th-century manor and a Victorian farmhouse arranged around a working farm yard. Run by the Cogges Heritage Trust since 2010, the site has been gently restored as a hands-on heritage farm — pigs, sheep, ducks and chickens to meet, walled gardens to wander, and a daffodil meadow that's at its peak in late March.

It's quietly become one of the best family attractions on the eastern edge of the Cotswolds — particularly good for under-tens, with hay-bale dens, a tractor play area and a regular programme of seasonal events. A separate kitchen and café in the Victorian range serves lunches built around produce from the kitchen garden.

The Cotswold Guide Top Tips

  • Best for families with primary-age children — older teens may find it short on indoor distractions.
  • Closed entirely from late October to mid-March outside special events; check the website before driving over.
  • Combine with a wander through Witney's Market Place and the Blanket Hall for a relaxed half-day on this side of the Cotswolds.
