Corinium Museum

Cirencester was Corinium, the second-largest Roman town in Britain — and this museum holds the mosaics, sculpture, and silver to prove it.

About

The collection centres on the daily life of Roman Cirencester between the 1st and 4th centuries, from kitchen vessels to the great Hare Mosaic, lifted from a townhouse floor and now displayed in its original orientation.

Beyond the Roman galleries, the museum traces Cirencester's later wealth as a wool town, with Anglo-Saxon and medieval rooms. Two hours is plenty; combine it with a walk in Cirencester Park afterwards.

In Cirencester

Once the second-largest city in Roman Britain, today a lively market town with one of the finest 'wool churches' in England.
