About
Fairytale Farm sits in a corner of the Heythrop Estate at Southcombe, just east of Chipping Norton. It opened in 2013 as the UK's first dedicated farm visitor attraction designed from the ground up for children with disabilities — every path is wheelchair-accessible, every animal pen is reachable from a wheelchair, and the layout is built around inclusive play rather than retro-fitted around it.
The site is a series of themed enclosures and walks: the Three Bears' House, an enchanted forest path, an Alice-in-the-Garden area, a sensory garden, a wishing well, and a working farmyard with goats, sheep, alpacas, pigs, ponies, miniature donkeys and rabbits to meet up close. There's a café in the central barn, a small gift shop, and outdoor seating. Most visitors find it a genuine half-day with under-10s; older children outgrow it quickly.
The Cotswold Guide Top Tips
- Best for under-10s; older children will run out of things to do within an hour or two.
- Closed weekdays from November to mid-March (open weekends in December for the Christmas trail).
- The Unicorn & Dragon weekend in late May draws bigger crowds — book a timed slot online to avoid the queue.
