Stroud Farmers' Market

The Saturday market on Cornhill that everyone in the southern Cotswolds drives to — three times named the best farmers' market in Britain.

About

Stroud's market began in 1999 with a handful of producers on Cornhill in the centre of town and has grown to fill the square and the streets around it every Saturday from 9am to 2pm. The Farmers' Retail and Markets Association (FARMA) has named it the best in Britain three times.

The producers come from a 30-mile radius of Stroud — Cotswold cheese, organic vegetables, Five Valleys charcuterie, sourdough from Hobbs House, and on most Saturdays a Stroud Brewery cask ale stand. It is at its best on a clear Saturday in May, when the early summer produce arrives and the streets fill with the smell of coffee and pastries.

The Cotswold Guide Top Tips

  • Park free at the railway station car park on Saturdays; it's a five-minute walk to the market.
  • Arrive by 10am for the best of the bread and pastries — Hobbs House regularly sells out by 11.
