Westonbirt, The National Arboretum

Six hundred acres of trees gathered from across the world since 1829 — and one of the finest autumn-colour displays in the UK.

About

Founded by the Holford family in 1829 as a private collection and now run by Forestry England, Westonbirt holds around 15,000 trees of 2,500 species across its Old and Silk Wood. The Japanese maples in the Acer Glade are the autumn focus, but the collection rewards every season.

A treetop walkway built in 2016 raises visitors into the canopy on a 300-metre boardwalk. There are concerts in summer and an illuminated trail in late November and December.
