Bath has run the Jane Austen Festival every September since 2001. The programme is split between scholarly talks, dance workshops, country balls, theatrical productions and a series of guided walks through Austen's Bath.
The Saturday-morning Regency Parade is the festival's signature event: over a thousand costumed participants set off from the Royal Crescent and walk into the city centre, in approximate order of social rank.
