Stow Horse Fair has been held twice a year since the late 15th century — Thursdays nearest 12 May and 24 October. The October fair is the smaller of the two but still draws thousands of Romany and traveller families, with horses traded along the lanes leading out of the town.
The fair takes place on Maugersbury Road south of the Square. Many shops, restaurants and pubs in the town close for the day — unless you're going specifically for the fair, this is one date worth avoiding in the Stow calendar. Dates occasionally shift by a week at short notice; check before travelling.
