About
Tetbury built its fortune on wool, and the town's Woolsack Races remember the drovers who used to test their strength between two of the town's coaching inns. On the Late May Bank Holiday Monday — Monday 31 May 2027 — teams of runners carry 60lb woolsacks up and down Gumstool Hill (a 1-in-4 gradient) between The Crown and The Royal Oak. Individual, team and women's categories run through the afternoon.
Around the race, Chipping Steps and Long Street host a full street fair — 100+ stalls, live music on two stages, food and beer tents, and family entertainment. It's Tetbury's biggest day of the year and the town centre is closed to cars from mid-morning.
Free to attend. Dates derived from the annual pattern; confirm with the race committee.
