Moreton-in-Marsh

The Cotswolds without a car

About Moreton-in-Marsh

Moreton-in-Marsh has the broadest high street in the Cotswolds, laid out by 13th-century planners along the line of the Roman Fosse Way. It is also the only Cotswolds town on the Cotswold Line railway, making it the natural base for visitors arriving from London by train.

The Tuesday market — running since 1227 — is the largest open-air street market in the region, with 200 stalls along the half-mile high street.

The Cotswold Guide view

Moreton is a beautiful small town with a good range of nice shops and restaurants. It will fill a few hours of pottering. The main road through it is a major route so worth checking the traffic before you visit. There are also some nice walks from Moreton and several nearby attractions are worth a visit, including Batsford and Sezincote.

The Cotswold Guide Top Tips

  • The Cotswold Line train from London Paddington stops here in 1h30 — Moreton has the best onward bus connections of any Cotswolds station.
