About Upper Slaughter
Half a mile upstream from Lower Slaughter — and a world quieter — Upper Slaughter sits round a small village green flanked by yew trees and the manor's stone gatepiers. The post office is in a Lutyens-restored cottage row from 1906.
The village is one of only fourteen 'Doubly Thankful' parishes in England — places that lost no one in either the First or the Second World War — and there is no war memorial as a result.
The Cotswold Guide Top Tips
- The footpath from Lower Slaughter joins the village on the south side — keep walking past the church for the best view back across the meadows.
- The Lords of the Manor restaurant is a destination in its own right; book ahead for dinner.
