The Cotswold Guide is run by an independent editorial team. This page explains what data we collect, why, and what your rights are under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Who we are
The data controller for this site is The Cotswold Guide. You can contact us at hello@thecotswoldguide.com about anything in this notice, including any rights request.
What we collect, and why
Trip planner. When you add places or attractions to your trip, your selection is saved in your browser’s local storage. This data never leaves your device and we cannot read it. Clear your browser storage to remove it.
Hosting and infrastructure. Basic information about users and their activity is collected by the hosting company and other service providers (DNS and media providers). This is standard request data — IP address, user agent, timestamp, page requested — used to deliver the site and protect against abuse, not to profile you. Each provider retains it under its own short-retention policy. The hosting provider also collects user analytics to help us understand how users use the site and to make improvements.
Cookies
The site uses your browser’s local storage to remember the items you add to your trip and your planner preferences. No tracking or advertising cookies are set. Because the storage is strictly necessary for features you have actively chosen to use, no cookie banner is required under PECR.
Lawful basis
We rely on our legitimate interests in operating a working, secure website for the server logs. The trip planner stores its data only on your own device and does not require us to process your personal data.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to:
- tell you what data we hold about you (right of access);
- correct inaccurate data (rectification);
- delete your data (erasure);
- restrict or object to our processing;
- provide your data in a portable format.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@thecotswoldguide.com. We will respond within one calendar month.
Complaints
If you believe we have mishandled your data, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. We’d appreciate the chance to address it first.
Changes to this notice
We will update this page if our practices change. The date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
