About
Cirencester — the Roman town of Corinium — takes the national Festival of Archaeology and makes it a two-week programme at the Corinium Museum, from Saturday 18 July to Sunday 2 August 2026. Highlights include an opening children's workshop with author S. J. Poyton on mammoths, cloning and de-extinction (18 July); the Company of Blood and Gold medieval re-enactors demonstrating 14th- and 15th-century witch marks, weapons and battlefield medicine (25 July); guided walks of Roman and medieval Cirencester; a Time Team afternoon talk on Cotswold excavations; and a rare behind-the-scenes tour of the museum's collections store at Northleach.
A separate partner event, Salmonsbury Moot, runs at Greystones Farm Nature Reserve near Bourton-on-the-Water, exploring the landscape, wildlife and history of the Salmonsbury bank-and-ditch enclosure.
Programme, timings and booking via the Corinium Museum website. Some events are drop-in; the workshops and guided walks require booking.
